Warchal Strings

Warchal Amber Violin Strings

I’m pleased to present the complete range of Warchal strings here in norwich and available by order from the website. They’ve been around over 10 years and have brought new concepts and innovation to string making. There are a wide range of violin strings to suit all tastes, some really excellent rich and expansive sounding viola strings, and very good synthetic cello strings with gut string like characteristics.
One of the interesting developments is the anti whistling violin ‘E’ string.

The coiled section is pulled straight when you tension the string and provides what is described as better lateral flexibility. It seems the metal E strings need more help to get moving than any other string and The Warchal Amber E strings are much more forgiving due to this unique design. If you have a violin that seems more prone to whistling give these a go, they are also remarkably warm for an E string.

New Online Shop for Violins and Strings, based in Norwich!

Welcome to George Weitz Violins!

Violin Shop NorwichI’d like to introduce my new online shop! I’ve been teaching the violin and viola here in Norwich for many years (and I still do! www.violinlessonsnorwich.com), and for a while I have been wanting to add a new aspect to my business. The main inspiration for this comes from the instruments themselves; you can’t spend so long with bowed stringed instruments everyday and not become caught up with their timeless elegance, the endless nuance of sound they can make and the history. There is of course the history of Stradivari and the great violininsts, but consider also the everyday history. Some quite modest instruments are easily well over 100 years old and many of them are in every day use and have been for their entire existence. There can’t be many objects that are like this in our daily life; at rest an object of contemplation, in action as a working instrument.

These old instruments are incredibly long lasting if looked after, but work needs to be done to keep them going. So I have teamed up with Philip Taylor, an excellent maker and repairer, and so I can now provide workshop services to customers in Norwich. Services include new bridges, sound posts, tonal adjustments, pegs re-fitted, general repairs, and complete restoration. Please have a look at the Repairs and Set-Up section of the website. I have an increasing range of older instruments with the aim of providing something for all budgets – especially for beginners and students.

The old instruments are only half of the equation as I’m always looking to promote new instruments from contemporary makers and these can be the most exciting of all! A well made new instrument can be astonishingly good to play and possess real character and quality in their sound. I will feature a range of excellent modern instruments very shortly, please keep checking back for updates

A parallel focus is also to supply the best accessories and strings for Violins, Violas, Cellos and Basses. I research every product as thoroughly as I can so that you can be sure of what you’re buying and that it is a product fit for purpose. Please add reviews via the product pages as feedback is so helpful for me and other customers.

Violas and Basses

I am a Viola player and one of the things I’d like to do is look after the Violas and Basses as much as I can, I’m always on the look out for more products to add to the shop that suit all price ranges and give proper choice – I am adding new things all the time but please get in touch with any suggestions for products you’d like see for Viola and Bass.

Ongoing plans

I’ve got many ideas in the pipeline for future development – I’ll keep information up to date here. In the meantime I am adding more and more products every week, mainly strings, shoulder rests and rosin initially, but becoming steadily more diverse.

Thanks for reading and please leave a comment if you like!
