Dominant Violin String -E

Description

Dominant violin strings are the most popular and respected synthetic strings on the market. These were the first synthetic core strings that sold in great numbers and changed conceptions about what could be expected of a violin string. They have a highly flexible, multi-strand synthetic core string for the tonal warmth and feel of gut but rather more like steel strings, they are impervious to changes in humidity, allowing for stable tuning and long life. The sound is smooth, clear and rich in overtones. Dominant strings, widely recognized as “the reference standard”, are legendary for distinctive tone and playability.

This E string is metal cored, but there is a choice of material either plain chromesteel (stainless steel) or steel with aluminium windings. Very briefly the Chromesteel has a brighter, bigger sound but is more prone to whistling; whereas the Aluminium wound version is less likely to whistle but with a deeper tone. This latter version is often recommended for beginners. There is also a tin plated version which allows more projection and a balance of brilliance and warmth.

Dominant E strings have many options to allow them to be fitted to a wide variety of instruments. The full size strings are available in three tensions, Low-Medium-High, to allow further flexibility. If in doubt order medium tension as this is suitable for most instruments.
